Anyone else familiar with this? In the 1970's there was a short story published in FAMOUS MONSTERS magazine called "Secret of the Sith." Totally unauthorized "fanfic" type story, but it was published in an actual magazine so I tore out those pages and have them in a folder. Not a great story, overall, but I like the fact that it dates to back before Empire Strikes Back so it shows one guy's idea about where the timeline could have gone. It picks up literally when Star Wars ends, with Darth Vader spinning out of control in the skies over Vavin-4....
I am in the process of re-reading it. I can't remember if it influenced my OD&D Star Wars campaign or not.
I was considering typing it and sharing with the group, if there is any interest.

Is this the one written by Dr. Michael Aquino? If so, I read it on his site and quite enjoyed it.

That's the one. If you have a link, it would save me some typing time. I'm at a game con for a couple of days, but ought to be able to post something middle of next week.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been online for a couple of years. I read it years ago and enjoyed it, so a typed version would be well received.

Okay. I'll get something up when I can. As I noted, the best thing about the story (IMO) is the fact that it was published before ESB. I'll need to check to see if it was published before or after Splinter of the Mind's Eye. I just remember that I've had it in my folder for a really long time. ------------------------------------------ EDIT: Looking at the early novel publication thread, it would appear to be after Splinter and before the first Han Solo book. (It's from the October, 1978) So.... 1976Star Wars: From The Adventures of Luke Skywalker (Nov) 1978Splinter of the Mind's Eye: From The Adventures of Luke Skywalker (April) "Secret of the Sith" (October) 1979Han Solo at Stars' End: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (April) Han Solo's Revenge: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (Nov)

Nice. You have probably saved me lots of time. I may do a copy-paste then reformat, but otherwise it seems like a much better thing than what I was starting to do. Story is longer than it looked.
The tricky thing is that, when looking at the PDF, clearly the author seems to have added a lot of his own content and conjecture to his timelines. A neat source for ideas and/or inspiration, but much of the PDF would be worthless for me trying to build onto a "canon" timeline. Still, his stuff is kind of neat in places.

I still remember a time when we didn't know what the "Sith" was. It wasn't that long ago, was it? I know the Sith were revealed long before the prequel films came out. There were the Tales of the Jedi comics in the 90's. Is that the first time we learned what a "Sith" was?
Before that, the Sith were...it was anybody's guess. Timothy Zahn wanted to make his Noghri "Sith", but LucasFilm wouldn't let him.

I'd never even heard of this, thanks for the link!
Sith play fairly heavily in the various draft scripts for Star Wars, always as a sect of warriors who are evil rivals to the Jedi, but those weren't available until much later I think. In the final script, which was published in November 1979 in The Art of Star Wars coffee table book, Darth Vader is called 'Dark Lord of the Sith', but we're left wondering what that implies.
I have a feeling that there's a brief description of the Knights of Sith in an early Bantha Tracks or Official Poster Monthly issue, but I can't be positive.
Now my brain is turning. It would be a nice project to put together a timeline of the development of the Sith in Star Wars media up to The Phantom Menace.
