Here's a little trivia for those who don't know... You do probably know that WEG was screwed in tight with Star Wars novels and comics when they were publishing their game. WEG published sourcebooks for Truce At Bakura, the Thrawn Trilogy, and the like. And, they published sourcebooks for the Dark Horse comics stories of Tales of the Jedi and Dark Empire, and such. But, did you know that the writers of the 1E core rulebook tipped their hat to the original Marvel comics, too, which had been published a decade before the RPG came out? You will see that influence if you look at the templates section of the original core book. The Kid, Quixotic Jedi, and a few other templates were inspired by characters seen in the early issues of the Star Wars Marvel comic. Look for characters like Don-Wan Kihotay, the original Quixotic Jedi! And, the Star-Killer Kid, inspiration for the Kid template! Among a few others.

I would love to run a campaign based on the Marvel comics. I have read and enjoy all the stuff published pre-ESB, but my very very favorite arcs are:
The Wheel (issues 18-23) Tagge family (issues 25-26, 30-37)
In addition to Vader and the Tagges, I also like the other recurring villains like Crimson Jack, Valance the Hunter, and Jabba the Hut (Mosep). Most of all, I just love the planets— A water planet! A jungle planet! An ice planet! And the simple overarching plot of General Dodonna sending you out to win planets over to the Rebellion and find a new base. I’d like to put it all together in a sector and unleash the players.

This collection of comics are a great inspiration for a SW campaign with a 70s vibe. From issue 1, up to before the ESB era began. IMO they are a fundamental source for the game. Many official character templates are drawn from these comics!
