1E Stun
I keep stumbling across reasons why I really like 1E's minimum Stun rule. In 1E, any hit will, at a minimum, stun the target. Later editions of the game and even rule changes to 1E changed this very important rule.
I listed earlier in the thread several reasons why the rule works so extremely well in the game. I'm an advocate of always using it (but, I like the idea of very strong creatures being able to shrug off a hit--can't have Jawas with daggers stunning Rancors).
Another reason why the 1E stun rule is good is because it lowers the hero factor and adds more respect to a blaster being pointed at you.
With the 1E rule, if a PC runs into a situation where a blaster is pointed at him, he's gotta think that, if the PC tries to draw, then the PC suffers a -1D to his attack--where as the character with the leveled blaster doesn't have that penalty applied.
Can the PC still roll higher than the NPC with the leveled weapon?
Remember, in 1E, there's no specializations; there's no character points. Unless the PC wants to blow a Force Point on it, there are odds to consider. Because, if the NPC rolls higher, his hit is considered first. And, if the NPC hits with that attack, the PC, at a minimum, is going down, stunned, possibly dropping his weapon, absolutely losing all the rest of his actions for the round.
