I started this collection of short stories. I avoided it like the plague for decades because its got Kevin J. Anderson's name on it as editor (and the Jawas story). But, I also see that the book is considered damn good by most. So, I dug into the first story, which is about the Bith band who plays the famous song we heard in the Cantina during A New Hope. Kathy Tyers wrote this story(she wrote The Truce At Bakura, the first novel to follow the original Thrawn trilogy when the EU started), and so far, I quite like it! It's refreshing to read a Star Wars story about...normal people...even when normal people are aliens living in the Star Wars universe. No blasters (so far). Instead, one of the band members says he carves his own reeds for his instrument. I played sax in high school, so I kinda dig that. And, the band is in good standing with the Intergalactic Federation of Musicians. No blasters (so far). No save-the-universe plots. Just a band trying to get a gig. I'm diggin' it. EDIT: I understand that these stories used the write ups in the Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope supplement for the WEG D6 Star Wars game! That supplement told background stories for many of the aliens seen in the film. The stories in this book are supposed to use those frameworks and flesh them out. We'll see how close they are!

I finished the first story. It was a hoot! I really enjoyed it. It made the world of Star Wars feel as if it was alive. There were other things going on in the universe shown to us in A New Hope--things other than the heroic story of Luke Skywalker.
Camie and Fixer make a cameo. You'll know who they are if you've listened to the Star Wars Radio Drama, read an early version of the script, or even read the novelization for The Last Jedi. And, we learn who owns the cantina!
The story is told in first person by one of the band members. No Figrin, the band leader, but by Doikk, the Fizz player.
It's fun!
