Curious as there was a gap before the official game did anyone here ever adapt Classic Traveller to use for Star Wars or did you use other system to fill that SW itch?

I know finarvyn ran a SW OD&D game. Maybe he's the guy that can give you an answer.

Yeah, I used OD&D to run a Star Wars game for a couple of years after the original movie and until roughly the time that Empire Strikes Back came out. CLASSES: Fighting men and thieves were the norm, and thief actions could be used to hack computers and so on. The Jedi were build on a Cleric chassis with a spell list more like magic-users. LEVELS: Jedi were level 4 (similar to hero) and Jedi Knights were level 8. Fighting men had rank in the Empire or Rebellion similar to level. I think that army sergeant was 2, captain 5, colonel 8. Navy ship captain around level 8. WEAPONS: Laser pistols did d6 damage, laser rifles d8, blaster pistols d8, blaster rifles d12. (We didn't really have d10's back then.) I let true lightsabers do 3d10 and laser swords (a poor man's lightsaber) do a d12 damage. Melee weapons as per OD&D. "Vibro" weapons did regular weapon damage +1. ARMOR: Very little. Military types could use leather armor, stormtrooper platemail was like OD&D platemail. Very few shields. Sith Armor for evil jedi were plate+2. ALIENS: IN OD&D it's easy to stat out monsters. I often looked for a D&D equivalent and used that.
