I love the OT radio dramatizations by Brian Daley. I think they’re the definitive “literary” versions of the OT stories, with solid characterizations and great added scenes and interesting details clarifying and fleshing out the things we see in the movies. Of the novels, I’ve only read the first one, by ADF, and, it’s not great, IMO. It’s basically the film script almost word for word, with just the barest effort put into padding the story (mostly describing the scenery and what people are thinking). The best part about it was the battle at the end; I thought that was pretty well written. Boot, I believe you’re familiar with all the novels AND the radio dramas; what would you say are the relative strengths and weaknesses?

Oh man, really? I loved the ADF novelization! I mean, I like it A LOT! And, I would not call ADF's novelization a word for word film script. There's a lot of differences. I spoke about these on the Dragonsfoot thread.
The OT novelizations start off a lot different. Then, Empire has some large parts that are different, but it starts to be more like the film (than ADF's book was like ANH).
Of the three, Jedi is very close to the film--so much so that I got bored reading it and am just now finishing it over a year after I started the book.
As for the radio plays, like you, I love them. They are well acted, and they are, all three, very different from the films (I would say). I think that they should be in any Star Wars lover's quiver.
