I have yet to get a chance to ride the new version. By the time it was out I was out of the country, and during visits back home I've never gone to the park—after spending my youth with an annual pass (it was less than $100 for a local's annual pass for many years), then getting in for free because I worked there and/or knew friends & family who did, I've never been able to bring myself to actually pay to go, let alone pay whatever the astounding cost is these days!
One day I'll go though, and I'm sure I'll love the new ride.

Yeah, man, I loved the original Star Tours!
One thing that was so awesome about the 80s/90s is how freakin’ STARVED we were for more Star Wars, and how any little thing that scratched that itch was just AMAZING.

I was the only true SW nut I knew of out of my cohort until about 5th grade, but from my admittedly young perspective I never noticed a period where the franchise was in purgatory. I guess by that I mean that I never felt like Star Wars was my personal thing—it was something that everybody loved, even the grownups, and I just happened to especially love it. From my perspective we were swimming in SW memorabilia in the late 80s and early 90s, and looking back I think being a So Cal local had a lot to do with that.
Being 1987, it was pretty much midway between Jedi and Thrawn, and sure, the comic was discontinued that year, but the cost to build Star Tours was almost as much as the cost to make all three movies more than the cost to make Star Wars and Empire together (and if you include Captain EO than the budget for the two surpassed the entire trilogy). As far as I'm aware, it was the most massively successful debut in Disneyland's history next to the opening day of the park itself. The gates were kept open 24 hours through the entire weekend, and that's really saying something. There have been only a couple of times in its history the park's routine 365-day schedule has been altered, and I think other than the Star Tours opening marathon, they've all been cases where the park was closed early.
Sometimes I wonder if Disney's ventures with Lucas were the main thing that kept the Star Wars brand alive until the EU renaissance.

Hello There!
People might remember me from boards like "OD&D Discussion" and "The Rancor Pit", among others. I'm a 33 year old filmmaker and game master from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I have loved SW ever since I was a child and I'm a "OT-only" kind of guy, which I consider to be the superior films in terms of cinematographic mastery and world building. I do enjoy the rest of what SW has to offer, but nothing matches the OT. I absolutely loath The Last Jedi. The only SW movie I genuinely hate. The rest (prequels and secuels) are fine and mostly enjoyable, though I prefer the way things are done and understood in the OT.
After GMing D&D for more than 20 years, I wanted to try new games. I usually prefer those with a more old-school approach. I found SW d6 by WEG and fell in love with it. I prefer 1E over 2E for now, since my players are usually RPG noobs (but SW hardcore fans) from the film industry down here in Argentina. So the simplicity and ease of use and cinematic style of the system is a big plus.
I really like the approach and scope of this board. Falconer's posts in other boards are always the type of stuff I want to read. I also see that many great folks from other boards are here too. Great!
I hope I have the time and energy to be an active participant of this community.
See ya around.

Welcome, Zulgyan. This is Wajeb Deb Kaadeb from the Rancor Pit. I don't go over there any more because Whill kept getting on my nerves. We can continue our discussions here! This is a good place, but it doesn't get as much traffic as I'd like it to. Maybe we can change that!

Well, at the Rancor Pit, the 1E subforum is getting little to no participation, sadly. So, as a 1E player myself, maybe this board is better. Nice to see you again! Your material has been very very helpful to get my SW game going.

Hello
Long time D&D player been a fan of the movies since the OT. I was 6 when the first Star Wars came out I only have vague memories of seeing it....Twice made my mom stand in line a second time at midnight to see it a second time. Let's see I like all three of the original I was never a fan of Ewoks but hey their canon so...
I never played SWRPG when it first came out most of my time was D&D and funds were limited as were getting gaming products. I later got my hands on a copy fo 2nd Ed and R&E. I ran a few games with them. The rules always seemed bloated so as fun as it was there was stuff I had to ignore or take away. Later I learned about 1E and managed to get a copy and found those rules more to my liking. I'm looking at starting up a game again at some point once I finish a current game I'm running.
As far as the movies go I'm not a huge fan of the prequels. I can manage to watch revenge of the sith, clone wars movie is ok but no phantom menace. I do however enjoy the clone wars animated series.
With the new movies I don't like the TFA was mediocre and the TLJ can burn in the fires of hell. Oddly enough I don't mind Rogue One as much and I find it watchable. The current politics and management at Lucas leave a lot to be desired. The best thing I think is to get rid of the current head of Lucas films and put someone there that actually cares about Star Wars and knows the lore.
Right now I'm prepping and getting re aquatinted with the 1E rules and books I have.
