Good point. It immediately gives off a different vibe in Star Wars, where everything about planets is given as a descriptor, while Traveller is designed so that every detail of a planet can be reduced to a single long serial number—which seems very cool and sci-fi, but gives off a much crunchier feel. Scanning a planet and getting a hexadecimal stat code would be more in keeping with a Star Trek game than Star Wars.
I was a little surprised that Open D6 Space never capitalized on the chance to consolidate and revise the Tramp Freighters/Planets/Scouts rules. Maybe the new WEG did publish something, or a fan netbook was made, but I missed it. Maybe there's room for someone to edit something that takes those rules but puts them more in line with the feel and mechanics of first edition?
